A lecture by Daniel Izsak (CEU) on Varied Approaches to Regionalism and Regionalisation: The ‘Good’, the ‘Bad’, and the ‘Ugly’

Regional cooperation and integration schemes come in a variety of shapes and sizes but can they be meaningfully compared? By distinguishing between regionalism, the political process between states, and regionalisation, the de facto integration between economic and other non-state actors, different types and intensity of regional integration schemes can be studied in a comparative perspective.

This talk will draw on ‘new regionalism’ and IPE concepts, and the examples of the EU, NAFTA, and the V4 to argue: what they do is less diverse than how they achieve it.
