Center for Teaching & Learning

About the CTL

The Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL) was founded in 2022, with the aim of promoting excellence and innovation in teaching and learning at AAU, by providing faculty with training in up-to-date pedagogical methods.

Data collected from faculty through annual satisfaction surveys, at new faculty orientation, and following professional development events are used to assess the efficacy of CTL activities and shape the institutional debate on instructional development at AAU.

Through the CTL’s offerings, faculty participate in professional development training to reflect on their current practice and strengthen their skills, thereby improving the learning experience for AAU students.

Quick TIP: how to create a drop box to run student papers through Turn.It.In.com

To create a Turn.It.In drop box in NEO, click “ADD an assignment”, found at the top right (as usual), whereupon the types of assignment will appear in the form of four tabs across the top. While the first tab is the more frequently selected, in this case, click on the third tab titled “INTEGRATIONS”. You will now see the blue icon for creating a Turn It In assignment.

Create it as you normally would and when it is finished, you will see the blue Turn.It.In.com icon indicating that the assignment will be automatically linked to the evaluative software when students submit their papers there. Be sure you indicate the deadline for paper submissions—once the software “closes” there is no way for students to upload late papers.

Faculty Rubric Samples

In these sessions, we will look at existing rubrics—from AAU institutional guidelines and some from AAU colleagues—to help guide the grading of in-class discussions, presentations, and papers. Our goal is to discuss techniques for making the grading load lighter and more efficient, while promoting quality in the process of giving students feedback on their work.
