Statement from President Jiří Schwarz on the Tragedy at Charles University

Dear AAU Community,

With profound sadness, I address you following the tragic events that recently occurred at Charles University. On December 21, 2023, a devastating act of violence was perpetrated, resulting in the loss of several lives and many injuries. This tragedy deeply affects us all, particularly the academic community. 

During this time of mourning, we stand in solidarity with our colleagues, students, and friends, at Charles University. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this horrific act.

Tragedies such as this remind us of the critical importance of community, compassion, friendship, and mutual support. We are more than just a university and in times like this, we must lean on each other for strength and comfort.
