Into the Abstract
Anglo-American University is proud to present the ABSTRACT student art exhibition. The showcase is the culmination of the course Studio Art in Practice—ABSTRACT, led by visual artist and lecturer Jana Babincová, and will open at AAU Studios Gallery on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 5:30 pm.
The exhibition invites viewers to appreciate the depth of abstract art through the eyes and hands of the students and is a fusion of both tradition and contemporary exploration, showcasing the diverse world of abstract expression.
The ABSTRACT course served as an introduction to intermedia studio work, placing a spotlight on abstract forms with painting as the foundational element. Students immersed themselves in visual experimentation, exploring the prevalence of abstract compositions in everyday life, from immediate surroundings to the micro and macro cosmoses.
Throughout the course, participants delved into the theoretical underpinnings and practice of abstract art, from historical influences to modern expressions. Their journey included attending exhibitions and engagement in motivational tasks, and students were encouraged to carve out their own artistic paths with minimal guidance.
The exhibition features each student’s final art piece, accompanied by an insightful statement by the artist reflecting on the inspiration behind their work, their process, challenges encountered, and the envisioned impact on viewers.
The exhibition promises to be an insightful journey into the limitless possibilities of abstract expression, highlighting the individuality and unique perspectives of emerging artists at the university.
