AAU is thrilled to be a part of #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations worldwide to encourage philanthropy and celebrate generosity.

Never heard of #GivingTuesday before? It all started in 2012 with a simple idea – to act as a counterweight to the consumerism encouraged by Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.), #GivingTuesday kicks off the giving season.

We have partnered with CARE, a major international humanitarian agency delivering emergency relief and long-term international development projects, to show that We CARE.

How can I help? It's simple, AND delicious!

We all love the scrumptious cookies, muffins, and brownies served up daily at Café des Taxis. On Giving Tuesday, November 28th, you can get a pastry of your choice for doing a good deed!

Upon the purchase of a Giving Card (the amount of money you spend is up to you), you’ll get to enjoy one of CDT’s tantalizing treats as well as perform a charitable act. What could be better?

We CARE: Stories of Help

As part of the kickoff for this year’s charitable season, AAU will host an exhibition from November 13th until November 28th: “We CARE: Stories of Help.” Roam the halls of AAU to find photos and stories of how CARE helps those most vulnerable and how your charitable acts can contribute to the betterment of lives around the world.

About CARE

CARE fights poverty by focusing on girls and women with programs that bring lasting change to entire communities.

Why does CARE fight poverty by focusing on girls and women?

“Because we have to. It’s simple: In the world’s poorest communities, girls and women bear the brunt of poverty. Fighting poverty in those communities requires focusing on girls and women to achieve equality. When families struggle to grow enough food to eat, or earn enough money to send all their kids to school, it’s the girls who are often the last to eat and first to be kept home from school.”

Girls and women aren’t just the faces of the poverty; they’re also the key to overcoming it. CARE’s nearly seven decades of experience makes clear that when you empower a girl or a woman, she becomes a catalyst for positive change whose success benefits everyone around her.

About Giving Tuesday

#GivingTuesday is a global giving movement that has been built up by individuals, families, organizations, businesses, and communities around the world. This year, #GivingTuesday falls on November 28th. #GivingTuesday harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners to transform how people think about, talk about, and participate in the giving season.

It inspires people to take collective action to improve their communities, give back in better and smarter ways to the charities and causes they believe in, and help create a better world. #GivingTuesday demonstrates how every act of generosity counts, and that they mean even more when we give together.
