In-person Family Orientation

This year, we are welcoming AAU families to campus for our first-ever Family Orientation. This special event is designed to provide family members of incoming first year students with an immersive experience that introduces them to our community and the resources, programs, and opportunities available to their students.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students are able to register for classes after submitting their tuition payment. Registration opens in May for the fall semester and in December for the spring semester. Students will meet with their program’s dean’s office to discuss their classes, and the Student Services Center will assist them in registering.

Feel free to contact the Admissions team at any time at admissions@aauni.edu. Any of our admissions counselors will be happy to assist you and your student.

Students receive academic advising from the dean’s office connected to their academic program, before their arrival on campus. They will also meet with this office prior to class registration. Dean’s offices are open by appointment throughout the year for students.

While students choose a major of interest at the time of application, we recognize that some may wish to change their program of study upon entering the University. Students may work directly with the dean’s office connected to their program to make adjustments accordingly. Additionally, within each major are concentrations. Most students choose to pick a concentration after their first year at AAU but are welcome to choose before if they would like.

Zeitraum student housing offers 24-hour reception and security, along with resident-only access. The Holešovice neighborhood, where this housing is located, is a quiet, residential community, just 20 minutes north of the city center.

Students living in Zeitraum can contact reception for assistance with calling for medical help.

In case of emergencies, 112 is the general emergency number that is available around the clock, connecting students with quick access to assistance.

If a student using VZP medical insurance needs to make a medical appointment, please schedule the appointment using the PZVP assistance line: +420 296 841 333.

Additionally, AAU offers mental health support through our on campus psychological counselors.

All non-EU citizens applying for a visa (or a residence permit) to study in Czechia are required by law to have adequate health insurance. If you would like to know more, please contact our dedicated insurance specialist, michaela@helloinsurance.cz. Holders of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) who stay in Czechia must register the EHIC with the Czech health insurance company.

AAU offers a range of financial assistance and scholarship options for students, including Early Payment, Bring a Friend discounts, and our First Year Honors Scholarship. AAU students can choose from 40+ exchange and Erasmus opportunities, with a dedicated advisor on-campus to help place students. Please see more information on our Student Exchange page.

With an array of student organizations both on-campus and within the city of Prague, students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities as a way to connect with like-minded classmates. AAU also offers a variety of on and off campus events, over 100 each year, along with 35+ clubs each semester. Students can also reach out to their Student Mentors. We encourage each one of our students to join in and be a part of the AAU community!

Prague is a major international city, providing a range of convenient shopping opportunities for anything your student may need. Regardless, AAU recommends students consider bringing the following:

Medications – While Czechia has plenty of pharmacy options, it may not have the specific brand of medication that you’re accustomed to. Speak with your healthcare provider prior to arrival to see which options are best for you.

Toiletries – If there are specific products your student uses, and/or if your student has any allergies, we recommend bringing an initial supply of their preferred toiletries until they find the Czech equivalent.

Reminders of Home – Photos of family and friends and other familiar items to decorate the residence hall room with.

Any laptop, Mac, or other form of PC will suffice—all are compatible with the on-campus printing center.
