Translating Jan Zabrana’s Women

The AAU Library would like to cordially invite you to a Den poezie reading in honor of Karolinum Press’s publication of Jan Zábrana’s The Lesser Histories, translated by Justin Quinn. The event will take place on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 19:00 at the AAU Library.

Zuzana Štastná will examine Zábrana’s translation of Sylvia Plath; Justin Quinn will discuss two of Zábrana’s sonnets that depict women. Discussion of these texts will lead to broader issues of gender representation and feminism.

The reading is a part of the “Day of Poetry” annual international festival, which takes place around the birthday of Czech poet Karel Hynek Macha. For detailed information about the program, please follow this link.

About the Speakers:

Justin Quinn is a translator, poet, and scholar. He is an associate professor of English at the University of West Bohemia’s Faculty of Education.

Zuzana Štastná is a translator and scholar. She is an assistant professor of translation at Charles University´s Institute of Translation Studies.
