Abstract:
In his address to the United Nations General Assembly 2014, President Obama quoted the President of the African Conference of Peace, Dr. Abdallah bin Bayyah: “We must declare war on war so that the outcome will be peace upon peace.” No society represents the perfect example, but each demonstrates that prosperity and development require peace. That’s why over the past few years, more African governments and societies have been focused on addressing one of the most dangerous threats to peace in Africa and the world; extremism. This presentation will provide an overview of the initiatives and contributions led by the African Conference of Peace to confront extremism in the continent.
