Professors in the Pub: Woke Ideology
Each month, come to Café des Taxis to have a drink (or two) and discuss important world events with professors and other subject-matter experts. Share your questions and views and join the long tradition of politics in the pub!
This month:
Woke ideology, often associated with social justice movements, encompasses a set of beliefs and practices aimed at raising awareness and addressing systemic inequalities and injustices, particularly those related to race, gender, sexual orientation, and other identity markers. It emphasizes an acute awareness of societal power dynamics and advocates for challenging and dismantling structures of oppression.
While proponents argue that it fosters inclusivity, equity, and empathy, critics contend that it can sometimes lead to a divisive and censorious approach, stifling open dialogue and free expression. It raises the following questions:
Why does more and more of life seem like a competition to see who is the most oppressed? How did ideas that seem so intellectually bankrupt achieve hegemony over elite culture? How did workplaces come to be the main domain of enforcing political ideology? Will the realm of academia and sciences become academically, morally, and financially bankrupt due to adoption of woke ideology?
Consider these questions and ask your own on Tuesday, December 7, 2023, at 6:30 pm in Café des Taxi.
The lead professor will be Michal Dord, entrepreneur, web developer, pro bono advisor to the Czech government on children’s rights, and 2013 AAU alumnus.
