Professors in the Pub: The Death of Woke (And Should We Care?)

Each month, come to Café Des Taxis to have a drink and discussion with professors and other experts about important events happening in the world. Share your questions and your views, and join the long tradition of politics in the pub.
This month:
Future generations may look back at the years from 2010 to 2025 as years of radicalism in the West. One manifestation of this tendency was the so-called ‘Woke’ constellation of ideas and initiatives to persuade society, corporations, the media, education and the governing legal-political establishments to embrace “radical inclusivity.”
Now that President Trump has declared the USA will be “Woke no longer,” it is perhaps time to pose some questions about the movement.
What did it achieve? Ought it to be considered more a success or a failure? Is it really dead because the American President says so? And, in a world where the established international order is being turned upside down, do the issues at stake in the culture wars really matter so much?
Come discuss these questions and ask your own.
The lead professor will be Gerald Power, Chair of History and Philosophy at AAU.
