Professors in the Pub: Strategic Adaptation
Each month, come to Café Des Taxis to have a drink and discussion with professors and other experts about important events happening in the world. Share your questions and your views, and join the long tradition of politics in the pub.
This month:
A traditional view of strategy sees the coordination of ends, means, and ways as the recipe for success. This view, however, neglects von Moltke’s insight that “No plan of operations survives first contact with the enemy force.” Adapting to the realities of the field is a necessary, though too often neglected component of successful strategy. How significant is adaptation to strategy? Where can we see examples of strategic adaptation being successful, while traditional strategy has failed? How does this impact events of the last 30, 20, or 10 years? How does it impact the war in Ukraine? Come discuss these questions and ask your own.
Come discuss these questions and ask your own! The lead professor will be Matus Halas, Senior Researcher of Security Issues at the Institute of International Relations, Prague.
