This month:
On December 21, 2023, the worst mass shooting in Czech history took place at Charles University’s Faculty of Arts. Long thought of as an American problem, such school shootings have become more common in Central and Eastern Europe over the last 15 years. Comparing and contrasting the European and American experiences can help shed light on commonalities related to the shootings, as well as unique historical and cultural contexts at play. How common are mass shootings in Europe? What roles do culture, legislation, and weapon’s access have? What are the influences behind these horrible events?
Come discuss these questions and ask your own on February 22, 2024, at 6:30 pm in Café des Taxi.
The lead professor will be Alexei Anisin, Dean of SIRD and author of several works concerning mass shootings.
