This month:

Xi Jinping was just nominated to become the first Chinese leader since Mao Zedong to lead China indefinitely. Under Xi´s leadership, China grew to be the biggest economy PPP and a global investor through its Belt and Road Initiative. During Trump’s pivot towards isolationism, China quickly filled the empty spot as a champion of globalization as well as a leader of green industries. Many predicted economic liberalization would lead China to democratize and integrate into the Western Liberal Democratic Order, but these predictions have been proven wrong. Xi has tightened the CCP´s grip on the media, suppressed any form of dissent domestically and internationally and formed alliances with authoritarian regimes. What does this mean for the Western Liberal Order? Will other states follow China’s example? Come discuss these questions and ask your own.

Come discuss these questions and ask your own! The lead professor will be Zuzana Veselá, Assistant Dean and Lecturer for the School of International Relations.
