Professors in the Pub: American Dysfunction

American dysfunction

Cafe Des Taxis

Each month, come to Café des Taxis to have a drink (or two) and discuss important world events with professors and other subject-matter experts. Share your questions and views and join the long tradition of politics in the pub!

This month:

As the world seems to be slipping ever deeper into a liberal vs illiberal global conflict, the contemporary hegemon on the side of liberal order is increasingly disordered and dysfunctional. American political culture is in disarray heading into another election season, with one dominant candidate facing multiple state and federal trials. The ominous shadow of AI-generated content looms large. American military leadership is being hampered by political grandstanding in the Senate. The American economy is perpetually being held hostage by partisan fights. The electorate is broadly uninterested at best and dangerously misinformed at worst. Children in school are more actively protected against books than they are against guns. What does all of this mean for America? For the Liberal World? For challengers to the Liberal World? Come discuss these questions and ask your own.

The lead professor will be George Hays II, Chair of International Relations at AAU.
