Marek Machýl, ‘Antifascism in the Eastern Bloc’
This lecture has an ambition to delve into the complex intersection of ideologies surrounding antifascism in the Eastern Bloc after 1945 until 1989. Focusing on the interpretation and implementation of antifascism by communist regimes, I intend to analyse how these regimes defined fascism and antifascism within their political frameworks. The focus will be on the Central European countries and their communist regimes. Crucial to this lecture will be an examination of World War II event´s interpretation into their antifascist narratives and how these narratives evolved over time and were influenced by the geopolitical context of the Cold War, including tensions and the actual rise of neo-fascist movements.
This lecture aims to provide insights into how ideology and geopolitics intersected and influenced political discourse and actions during this historical period.
Marek Machýl, is a PhD student at the Institute of History of the Slovak Academy of Sciences since 2023.
