IWAP Czech History Course

Ready to explore Czech history in all its glory? Sign up today!

This course, designed exclusively for members of the International Women’s Association of Prague, explores the major historical developments that have defined the Czech lands, from early kingdoms to the present day.

The course will begin with a survey of the early days of the Great Moravian Empire (9th century) and the reigns of the Přemyslid and Luxembourg dynasties, along with the religious upheaval of the Hussite Revolution (1419–1436) and the rule of the Jagiellonian dynasty (15th–16th century).

While these early periods will be covered, the course will place an emphasis on more recent history, exploring the influence of the Habsburg Empire (16th–20th century), the emergence of the modern Czech nation, and the founding of an independent Czechoslovakia in 1918. From there, it will trace the impact of the German occupation during World War II, the Communist takeover, the Velvet Revolution, and the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia, leading up to the establishment of the Czech Republic in 1993.

No prior knowledge is needed, just an interest in the Czech lands and their journey through time and a desire to learn!
