On Friday, May 10th, the AAU community gathered in the courtyard to celebrate the excellency and dedication of staff, faculty, and students at the AAU Annual Awards Ceremony.

Below is the list of the 2019 award winners along with a photo album from the evening. Congratulations to the winners, you all deserve it!   

Best Course of 2018/19 Award

This award is given to the TEACHER whose course has made scholarship at Anglo-American extremely rewarding, interesting and valuable. The course's exemplary program has outstanding merit and creates great interest from the student body. Those who voted for the course noted its ability to make hard tasks fun and the overall improvement of their skill set by the end. The winner of the Best Course of 2018/19 Award is Composition I & II, Anthony Marais

Outstanding Scholar Award

This award, which was voted upon by faculty, is given to the STUDENT who has displayed outstanding academic scholarship and commitment, while simultaneously achieving and maintaining an excellent grade point average. This individual has demonstrated the ability to go above and beyond their course expectations, by engaging, participating and demonstrating exceptional performance in their academic environment. In this case, there are two winners who were recognized equally for their excellent academic performance, with an equal amount of votes from Faculty. The winners of the Outstanding Scholar Award are Nikola Bařinová AND Justyna Julia Hinz.

Staff Member of the Year

This award, voted on by fellow staff members, is given to the STAFF MEMBER who has performed extraordinarily in their position in order to make AAU a better place for students, faculty, and staff. Those who voted for the recipient cited the recipient's “diligence, self-motivation and dedication” as being “a great example and inspiration (to their) colleagues”. The winner of Staff Member of the Year is Jeta Sahatqija.

Teacher of the Year Award, School of International Relations & Diplomacy 

This award is given to the TEACHER from the SCHOOL OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS & DIPLOMACY whose dedication to teaching and outstanding performance has increased the knowledge of students, motivated students to excel in their studies, and inspired students to greater commitment to their own personal development. Those who voted for the recipient of this award noted their incredible ability to teach their students. The winner of Teacher of the Year Award for the School of International Relations and Diplomacy is George Hays II.

Teacher of the Year Award, School of Humanities & Social Sciences 

This award, voted on by students of the school of Humanities and Social Science, is given to the TEACHER, whose dedication to teaching and outstanding performance has increased the knowledge of students, motivated students to excel in their studies, and inspired students to greater commitment to their own personal development. Those who voted for the recipient described the teacher as “incredibly attentive”, appreciating the teacher’s ability to show that she “genuinely cares about her students”. The winner of the Teacher of the Year Award for School of Humanities and Social Sciences is Marketa Šebelová.

Teacher of the Year Award, School of Business Administration 

This award, voted on by students from the SCHOOL OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, is given to the TEACHER whose dedication to teaching and outstanding performance has increased the knowledge of students, motivated students to excel in their studies, and inspired students to have a greater commitment to their own personal development. Those who voted for the recipient noted the profound and lasting impression the professor left on them throughout the course of their studies. The winner of Teacher of the Year Award for the School of Business Administration is Anthony Marais.

Teacher of the Year Award, School of Law

This award is given to the TEACHER from the SCHOOL OF LAW, whose dedication to teaching and outstanding performance has increased the knowledge of students, motivated students to excel in their studies, and inspired students to have greater commitment for their own personal development. Those who voted for the recipient noted their skills in engaging students taking their course. The winner of the Teacher of the Year Award for the School of Law is Scott Prange.

Teacher of the Year Award, School of Journalism, Media & Visual Arts 

This award, voted on by students from the SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM, MEDIA, & VISUAL ARTS, is given to the TEACHER whose dedication to teaching and outstanding performance has increased the knowledge of students, motivated students to excel in their studies, and inspired students to greater commitment to their own personal development. Those who voted for the recipient described them as standing out for their considerable ability to be well received by students in their courses. The winner of Teacher of the Year Award for the School of Journalism, Media, and Visual Arts is Theodore A. Turnau.

Student of the Year Award, School of Journalism, Media & Visual Arts 

This award is given to a STUDENT from the School of Journalism who has displayed great knowledge and skill in their field, is extremely competent, and is most likely to make a difference in the future. Those who voted for the recipient noted their incredible passion and perseverance, demonstrated through their considerable ability to run and lead an on-campus organization. The winner of the Student of Year award for the School of Journalism, Media, and Visual Arts is Mariam Bakhturidze.

Student of the Year Award, School of International Relations & Diplomacy 

This award is given to a STUDENT from the School of International Relations & Diplomacy who has displayed great knowledge and skill in their field, is extremely competent, and is most likely to make a difference in the future. Those who voted for the recipient recognized their ability to inspire through hard work and activism on campus. The winner of the Student of the Year Award for the School of International Relations and Diplomacy is Adela Jiřičková.

Student of the Year Award, School of Business Administration 

This award is given to a STUDENT from the School of Business Administration who has displayed great knowledge and skill in their field, is extremely competent, and is most likely to make a difference in the future. Those who voted for the recipient noted their well-rounded, outstanding academic performance. The winner of the Student of the Year Award for the School of Business Administration is Nikola Bařinová.

Student of the Year Award, School of Law

This award is given to a STUDENT from the School of Law who has displayed great knowledge and skill in their field, is extremely competent, and is most likely to make a difference in the future. Those who voted for the recipient emphasized their determination, and their large potential for success after graduation. The winner of the Student of the Year Award for the School of Law is Martain Matusewicz.

Student of the Year Award, School of Humanities & Social Sciences 

This award is given to a STUDENT from the School of Humanities & Social Sciences who has displayed great knowledge and skill in their field, is extremely competent, and is most likely to make a difference in the future. Those who voted for the recipient applauded their dedication and overall exemplary performance in arts and humanities. The winner of the student of the year award for the School of Humanities and Social societies is Ján Tompkins.

Most Helpful Staff Member of the Year

his award is given to the STAFF MEMBER who has performed extraordinarily in their position in order to make AAU a better place for students, faculty, and staff. Those who voted for the recipient noted their patience, kindness, and overall effectiveness as being a considerable contribution to the AAU community. The winner of the Most Helpful Staff Member of the Year is Jozef Bartík.

Distinguished Artist Award

This award is given to the STUDENT who has displayed excellence, dedication and hard work in their artistic craft. Those who voted for the recipient noted their incredible artistic talents in all regards, all of which can be found demonstrating raw emotion and incredible passion. The winner of the Distinguished Artist Award is Lindsay Salvati.

Club of the Year Award

This award is given to the officially registered CLUB that has shown dedication and commitment to their duties, their members, and the greater AAU community. Those who voted for this club did so because of the opportunities it offers students, while giving members more confidence and experience. The Club of the Year Award goes to Lennon Wall.

The AAU Spirit Award

This award is given to the STUDENT who does not have an elected leadership role, yet has performed great deeds in service of the AAU community. Those who voted for the recipient did so because of their unforgettable character, their compassion for their peers, and unstoppable friendliness. The winner of the AAU Spirit Award goes to Ify Nsoha.

AAU Student Council Member of the Year

This award is given to the Student Council member whose enthusiasm, performance, and dedication has resulted in significant contributions to the AAU community. Those who voted for the recipient of this award did so because of the undeniable passion and dedication he has for his position, which he uses to manifest ideas with the pure intention of improving the AAU community. The winner of the AAU Student Council Member of the Year Award is Stefan Fiedler Alvarado.

Distinguished Leadership Award

This award is given to the FACULTY or STAFF member or STUDENT who has displayed great leadership skills and qualities and demonstrated innovation and motivational leadership in their academic or community settings. Those who voted for the recipient described them as “very insightful and influencing”, and with a “fabulous attitude towards students”. The winner of the Distinguished Leadership Award is Anthony Marais.
